Getting to Know 10 STAR

Did you know that today is “Get to Know Your Customers Day”? Modu-Loc works with a wide variety of clients in industries like construction, special events, retail, and infrastructure. In recent years, we have done more and more work with experiential marketing agencies to support their efforts in putting on unique and interesting brand activations. We wanted to explore this creative and fast-paced industry by getting to know one of our customers better.

Meet 10 STAR, a brand activation agency headquartered in Vancouver, BC.  Offering everything from staffing procurement to production support to full-scale festival and event activations, 10 STAR really knows their stuff. Production Manager Scott Lawson-King was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule (while traveling, no less) to answer some of our questions.

Modu-Loc: Tell us a little about 10 STAR.

Scott Lawson-King: 10 STAR is a brand activation agency that specializes in creating most the unique events you will attend and the most engaging activations you will experience. We work far west as Vancouver Island and have had activations all the way across to Antigonish, NS.  The majority of our work and offices are in Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto. The company was formed in 2009, and I joined the team in 2013. My role as production manager means bringing all of these unique and creative ideas to life.

M-L: Who are your customers?

SL-K: As the production manager, my customers are my team, our clients, the suppliers we work with, and the patrons that experience our activations and that attend our events.

M-L: How do you help your customers? What problems do you solve?

SL-K: Each of my customers comes with their own needs (and problems).  I help by being available and being present in my interactions with customers.  I have learnt that listening, learning, and never assuming is the most effective way to problem solve.  What problems do I solve…how long have you got?!

M: What do you like most about working with Modu-Loc?

SL-K: Modu-Loc has always met and exceeded our expectations; from ‘I needed it yesterday’ requests, to ‘here’s everything we need nationally for the next 4 months’. Regardless of the scope or timeline, I have every faith in Modu-Loc’s ability to deliver every time.

Heather, Jeff, Sinéad, Rob, Colton, Sherman – over the years of working with Modu-Loc, they’ve all become people I’ve gotten to know, and are more than just suppliers.

M-L: What is the best part of your job?

SL-K: Seeing the reaction of our clients and customers at the final product.  It makes the hard work, months of planning, long days or even weeks at a time on the road, all worth it.  I’m immensely proud of my team and what we collectively create.

M-L: Is there an exciting project you’re currently working on that you’d like to share with us today?

SL-K: Right now we’re in the middle of festival season, by far the craziest time of year!  It’s also when we’re able to unveil the projects that have been keeping us busy for the past few months.  If you see me on a festival site this summer, I’d be happy to give you a tour.  I don’t like to boast, but our activations this year are the best yet!

M-L: Just for fun – what are you binge-watching on Netflix right now?

SL-K: I wish I had time to binge watch Netflix right now – my ‘to watch’ list is piling up!  On my last flight, I was able to watch a documentary on The Doors…highly recommend.
